LocationIn May 2005, Brandenburg's state parliament passed a resolution to construct its new parliament building on the site of the city palace demolished in 1959 in the center of Potsdam.

The new parliament building is located on the Alter Markt in close proximity to city hall, the Nikolaikirche, Knobelsdorffhaus and the Havel.
Parliament building projectThe new parliament building was constructed within the outlines of the original city palace designed by Georg Wenceslaus von Knobelsdorff. The building was set within the reconstructed outer facades and in reference to the original massing of the palace. The five-story building is 100-meters wide, 140-meters long and 23-meters high. The new parliament building has an area of approximately 35,000 sqm.

The interior offers all of the necessary functions that a parliamentary institution requires with a modern style of expression. Besides the plenary hall with a characteristic opening in the ceiling, the building houses around 370 offices for parliament members, political parties and the parliamentary administration. In addition, the building is fit-out with meeting and conference rooms, a library as well as a restaurant and roof terrace open to the public.

Besides organizing and executing the award procedure, [phase eins]. provided services including an art-in-architecture competition and parts of project controlling in the context of construction of the new building.
